Liverpool will ruthlessly get rid of starting defender this summer

Liverpool will definitely not renew Kolo Toure‘s contract, and instead will release the ageing Ivorian – our best player in the Europa League Final defeat to Sevilla, reports the Echo.

The 35-year-old took suspended Mamadou Sakho’s place in our starting XI towards the end of the season just gone, ahead of Martin Skrtel, and in fairness – did himself proud.

Toure made up for his lack of pace with bravery and smart defensive positioning, and he was one of the few players to emerge from the Sevilla loss with credit.

Despite Sakho’s impending ban and Skrtel’s likely sale, Liverpool will still move Toure on come the end of his contract.

We’ve already got Cameroonian giant Joel Matip coming in on a Bosman free, while Joe Gomez should finally return from his season ending injury ahead of 2016/17. This will give us a central defensive roster of Dejan Lovren, Matip and Gomez at the beginning of the campaign, and even with Sakho’s eventual return, that looks a little light.

According to the Daily Mail, Niklas Sule is a target. Signing the 20-year-old Hoffenheim defender would leave us very strong at the back before we embark on next term.
