Liverpool midfield target agrees terms with Serie A giants

Porto midfielder Hector Herrera has been a reported target of ours for a while, with Klopp seemingly keen on the Mexican international. We look close to missing out on the 26-year-old though, with Serie A side Napoli apparently agreeing terms with the player, according to Calcio Mercato.

As the report suggests, while personal terms are done and dusted, the transfer fee is yet to be agreed. With 30% of the transfer fee set to be paid to Herrera’s former club Pachuca, Porto are determined to make the sale worth their while. They are demanding €25m for the player, which Napoli seem to believe is too much.

If we were willing to match their valuation of the player then it’s very possible we could beat them to the punch, but at that price is he really the player we should be chasing?

Reports suggest we’ve already beaten Napoli to the signing of one midfielder, with a £9.5m move for Piotr Zielinski in the works (via The Guardian). The Pole apparently favours a move to Liverpool, so it seems this one is ours if we want him.

We’re also being linked with a big money move for Mateo Kovacic, and for around the same money as Herrera he’d arguably be a better signing (via the Daily Star).

There’s no telling which of these midfielders – if any – we’ll sign this summer, but it seems likely that we’ll have to wait until after the Euros for any concrete information.
