Jamie Carragher rubbished reports suggesting that Sadio Mane’s transfer fee could rise as high as £38.5m, suggesting that the deal has been done for the original £30m that we all expected.
The Telegraph reported that the fee was much higher than we originally believed, with add-ons potentially set to see it rise to somewhere between £36m and £38.5m.
Carragher insists that’s just not true though, taking to Twitter to give us the truth
Liked Mane at Southampton but I do think 30 mil is expensive but if he delivers it’ll be worth it like every transfer. It’s 30 not 38.5 mil!

The Liverpool legend is likely to be in the know about these sorts of things, as his ties to the club are naturally still incredibly strong. We’re certainly going to take his word for it over The Telegraph, and we’re glad the price hasn’t risen to a record breaking fee.
Carragher does admit that even at £30m it’s a pretty expensive transfer, and it’s hard to disagree with him. Mane may well prove to be a superb signing, but at £30m there’s a lot of risk involved. We’ve been stung before with hefty transfer fees, but you’d expect Jurgen Klopp to get things right.
This is his first summer transfer window in charge and he’s understandably making big changes, with Mane the biggest to date.
