We have just rejected a £25 million offer from Christian Beneteke from Crystal Palace.

Andy Kelly at the Liverpool Echo broke the news a little over half an hour ago.

It is understood to be the first official offer we’ve received for Benteke during the transfer window, but according to Kelly, the deal was immediately rejected without consideration.

Club officials are confident they can easily regain all of the £32.5 million that we spent on the striker last summer, especially given the current nature of the British transfer market.

What the offer does reveal, however, is that there is serious interest in the man who scored just 10 times in 20 starts and 22 substitute appearances last season.

It remains to be seen whether or not Palace come back with a new offer. They are the bookies favourites to land the 25-year-old, but they’ve already spent big money on Andros Townsend and Steve Mandanda this summer and it’s not clear how much money is left in their kitty.
