Ask either Shamal George or Steven Caulker what it was like to represent Liverpool for the first time, and the chances are high that their answer would be “surreal”.
Not because such few people ever get the honour of wearing the Liverpool red – but because both made their debuts wildly out of position.
For the second time in six months tonight, Jurgen Klopp gave a player their first Liverpool appearance in attack. It’s definitely not what young Shamal George would have been expecting when he got on the team bus to Huddersfield on Wednesday afternoon.
