Liverpool predicted XI v Arsenal: Emre Can & Origi on the bench v Gunners

Posted by

Liverpool take on Arsenal today in the first game of the Premier League season.

James Milner and Daniel Sturridge are not 100% and we doubt Jurgen Klopp will risk them early on in the campaign, meaning Alberto Moreno will play at left-back and Roberto Firmino up top – but the rest of the side largely picks itself.

With Loris Karius injured, Simon Mignolet starts in goal. The spot between the sticks is now the Belgian’s to lose, so we can only hope he does himself justice. It’s without doubt his last chance. At right-back Nathaniel Clyne is shoe-in, while Ragnar Klavan and Dejan Lovren will begin in central defence. Mamadou Sakho is injured and Joel Matip is working his way back into full fitness.

In our predicted 4-3-3, we reckon Emre Can will miss out due to a suspected injury and the boss will go for Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana. Can has not been long back from the Euros, has suffered a niggle and has been slow during pre-season, while the other are up to speed.

Up top, Coutinho will cut in from the left and Sadio Mane will provide genuine pace and width from the right – while Firmino will lead the line.

In Divock Origi, Klopp has a pacy, powerful option from the bench – while Marko Grujic will provide an option in midfield as a substitute too.
