Liverpool team news v Burnley; at least two changes expected including Sturridge

Daniel Sturridge is expected to start against Burnley this weekend coming, reckons James Pearce in the Echo.

The article also claims that James Milner, now fit, is a certainty to come in for Alberto Moreno on the left of defence.

The Spaniard failed miserably at the Emirates and for his own benefit as much as anything, needs to be taken out of the firing line after a media savaging following his mistakes against Arsenal.

But we can also see Emre Can coming back into a team which lacked defensive cover in central midfield, which means one of Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum or Adam Lallana could make way.

There’s also a chance that Joel Matip could come in at centre-back, although this for us is unlikely. Instead, we think the Cameroonian will make his debut against Burton in the League Cup.

We’re actually surprised Pearce thinks Sturridge will return, when you consider how well Roberto Firmino, Coutinho and Sadio Mane did as a front-three.

Bringing in Sturridge means either changing formation or dropping one of the aforementioned trio. We’d personally keep Sturridge on the bench but bring in Can to give the defence added protection – but we’ll see what the manager has gone for around Saturday lunchtime.
