Liverpool defender has picked up injury, ruling him out of Leicester clash

Another day, another injury to a Liverpool player.

Thankfully, Ragnar Klavan wasn’t due to start on Saturday against Premier League champions Leicester City when they visit Anfield for our first home game of the season.

Jurgen Klopp has decided to instil Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip as his first-choice centre-back pairing, meaning the Estonian would have been on the bench anyway, but his injury, reported by the Echo, is still disappointing.

The 30-year-old aggravated a knee problem on international duty, and won’t be fit to make the match-day squad for Liverpool’s first game in front of the newly expanded New Main Stand.

Jurgen Klopp now has a decision to make regarding who to pick on the bench. He’ll likely select Lucas as centre-back cover, but with Mamadou Sakho still at the club and fit again, it’ll be mighty interesting to see if he considers the Frenchman – having previously told the 26-year-old to prove his form and fitness out on loan.

Joe Gomez is still recovering from a debilitating injury, while Tiago Ilori has no first-team prospects. Will Mama eventually be phased back into the reckoning…?
