Liverpool legend Luis Garcia reveals he used to constantly fight with Rafa Benitez

Despite only spending three years at Anfield, it’s fair to say Luis Garcia is a club legend.

He developed a penchant for scoring both spectacular and vital goals. His two most memorable were the wonderful volley against Juventus in the 2005 Champions League quarter-final, then the “ghost goal” against Chelsea in the semis – but a look through his Liverpool highlights reel reveals a series of absolute stunners.

So it might come as some surprise that he used to fight with the man responsible for honing him into a top class player – Rafa Benitez.

“I was always fighting with Rafa Benitez about [my best position]! I loved to play as a 2nd striker but he’d mainly play me out on the wing,” said Garcia.

Thankfully, they weren’t serious fights. Instead, they were apparently constant arguments about his best position.

The revelations were made during a Q&A session with the official Champions League Twitter account:

Garcia eventually left the club in 2007 and went on to play for Atletico Madrid, Racing Santander, Panathinaikos, and Mexican sides Pumas UNAM and Puebla before hanging up his boots for the final time.
