(Videos) Karius makes two fantastic saves for Liverpool to show why he was signed in the first place…

Liverpool were extremely poor in the first-half against Southampton this evening, failing to inject the kind of speed, class or enthusiasm we’ve become accustomed to this campaign.

One positive though was Loris Karius, our young German goalkeeper selected by the boss to start ahead of Simon Mignolet.

Before Plymouth in the FA Cup, Karius had been dropped for a series of weak performances, but showed why we signed him from the Bundesliga with two wonderful first-half stops.

With Mignolet currently in very good form, it seems we might have two ‘good’ stoppers competing for one position after all – which was the aim when we signed Karius from Mainz.

Expect the younger man to play the next leg of the semi-final in a few weeks’ time, as well as any FA Cup matches we’ve to play over the coming months.

May his good form continue.
