Carragher has gone in very, very hard on Sturridge: ‘Like playing with 10 men’

Jamie Carragher pulls no punches on Sky Sports, and that’s one of the reasons he’s such a well liked pundit.

But Liverpool Football Club won’t appreciate his post-match comments, after we lost to Southampton this evening in the EFL Cup.

Shane Long’s late goal saw us go down 2-0 on aggregate, and in truth, it’s probably a fair result over the two legs.

The reaction to Sturridge’s performance tonight is… brutal

Sturridge did nothing in the first-leg, but was arguably worse tonight – missing two sitters in the second-half which proved exactly how low he is on confidence right now.

The pace is gone, and when he’s not offering running in behind – his decision making can be infuriating.

“Daniel Sturridge is a completely different player now to when he came – reason Rodgers bought him was to penetrate in behind,|” our legendary former centre-back told Sky Sports, cited by Anfield HQ on Twitter.

Earlier, we watched clips of Sturridge from 2013/14, and it’s abundantly clear he’s changed – and sadly not for the better. He makes different runs, lacks blistering pace and doesn’t back himself to beat defenders.
Aged 27, it seems injuries may have sadly got the better of him.
