Real Madrid have just signed a 16-year-old for €45m, beating LFC to his signature

This is utterly barbaric!

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Flamengo’s starlet Vinicius Junior and are paying €45m for his services… But because he’s only 16, he won’t transfer until 2019 when he turns 18.

(That’s not a typo… That’s €45m.)

Brazilian outlet Globoesporte confirmed the news this morning, claiming that despite Neymar heading to Brazil to visit the youngster, he’s chosen Los Blancos – who were prepared to pay €15m more than Barcelona and according to Marca (translated by Sports Witness), ourselves.

Liverpool, Bayern and Barca were all ready to cough up €30m, but Real Madrid effectively blew us all out of the water to get the wonderkid’s signature.

Vinicius has 19 goals in 22 appearances for Brazil’s Under-17 side and is being touted as ‘The Next Neymar’ in his homeland.

We’ve only seen YouTube clips, but like his countryman, Vinicius is outrageously skilful, quick and appears one of those forwards you pay to watch.

Many said the same thing about Martin Odegaard before the Norwegian transferred to Spain, though…

€45m for a 16-year-old? Game’s gone.
