Liverpool fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief as the Echo’s James Pearce has reaffirmed our position in regards to Virgil Van Dijk.

Last night a story in the Mirror suggested Keane to Liverpool was almost done, for a £25m fee, which left fans feeling disappointed and perplexed.

But thankfully, it appears our ambitions for this summer’s transfer window are still lofty, with Jurgen Klopp surely keen to fix some clear problem areas of his squad.

As well as Van Dijk, Pearce reckons Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly is also preferred over former United defender Keane.

Not only is a centre-back needed, but a left-back also – as well as a defensive midfielder, a creative one, a winger and probably a striker as well.

This will hopefully enable us to compete on all fronts, including the Champions League, with two games left of this current campaign to ensure qualification.
