LFC in three-way battle for €45m French international

Manchester City are the frontrunners for Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy, while being close to confirming a deal for their brilliant playmaker Bernardo Silva as well, reports RMC Sport.

The French wing-back will cost €45m, having played an integral part of Monaco’s Ligue 1 success and excellent Champions League run.

However, Liverpool are reportedly willing to match City’s offer, as are Manchester United, who want a new left-back now their Europa League win has ensured Champions League qualification.

Mendy is quick, offensive and has consistent end-product. At 22, he has his entire career ahead of him and could develop into one of the best in the world in his position if he continues at the current rate of progression.

In truth, if City are at the front of the queue, we think it’ll be pretty hard for us to take over, with their ability to offer mindboggling wages and the fact they’r already in the Champions League, with Pep Guardiola in charge…

Anyway, Jurgen Klopp, rightly or wrongly, seems happy with James Milner, only requiring a backup to be signed – so Liverpool fans may have to grin and bear that reality this summer.
