Liverpool’s reported pursuit of Sporting CP winger Gelson Martins is seemingly refusing to fade away despite the club moving closer to signing Roma’s Mohamed Salah.
Martins had previously been identified as an alternative to the Egyptian and was subject to an approach by the Reds earlier on in the month.
The likelihood is that the 22-year-old remains to be a backup option but, while his name is still circulating, it is only natural to ponder whether Liverpool would target two wide players in the same transfer window.
Liverpool are preparing a £44million offer for Martins, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see links to Martins completely disappear following the supposedly imminent announcement of a deal for Salah.
He represent a risk for such a high price given the fact he has only scored 14 times and registered 18 assists in 88 games for Sporting so far.
On the other hand, Salah’s reported £39million transfer fee marks is far more justifiable with the former Chelsea man boasting a record of 34 goals and 24 assist in his 83 appearances for the Serie A side.
