LFC on alert has Southampton go for impressive Spurs Centre-Back

Is this an indication that Southampton are preparing for life without Virgil van Dijk?

Possibly…

The Saints have earmarked Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer as the man to replace their hopefully Liverpool bound Dutchman, according to the Daily Mail.

They’d rather he stays, but are actively making contingency plans in case they lose the 25-year-old – which can only be positive for Liverpool.

Van Dijk has told Southampton he wants to leave and has been made to train alone as a result, but Liverpool are yet to return with a bid – although we’re expected to in the coming weeks.

Dean Saunders’ Coutinho comments are absolutely absurd…

Wimmer isn’t an automatic starter under Maurcio Pochettino, but that’s only because Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are the best defensive pairing in the Premier League.

According to the report, Spurs would expect a £20m fee for the Austrian.

In fairness, perhaps Liverpool should just go straight in for Wimmer ourselves and save two years of watching him progress on the south coast and a future £100m bid!
