LFC go for Upamecano; Rb to insert €100m clause to avoid ‘Keita Mark II’

Liverpool must have scouts at Rb Leipzig every single week…

We were very interested in Timo Werner, Emil Forsberg and Naby Keita this summer just gone – and eventually secured the latter for £55m – although he’ll arrive at the end of this season (when his release clause becomes active).

The German club were desperate to keep the Guinean and have been stung by the release-clause – as he’ll likely be worth more than the £48m + £7m premium Liverpool agreed to pay in August.

As a result, they’re ready to insert a €100m release clause into Dayot Upamecano’s prospective new deal, with Liverpool becoming increasingly interested in the young Frenchman.

Bild report (via Mirror), that Jurgen Klopp is mightily impressed with the 18-year-old, who’s been a starter for RB at centre-back this season.

Upamecano is incredibly powerful and interestingly has followed the same path as Keita, joining from Rb’s sister club Rb Salzburg this summer.

Perhaps he’ll also follow the midfielder to Merseyside next summer?

To be shining in the Bundesliga and Champions League already is mightily impressive – especially considering he was playing in the far easier Austrian league last term.

Upamecano will be a name we’re likely to hear plenty about this season and we’d have no problem whatsoever if Liverpool agreed a future deal with the teenager – and maybe his team-mate Werner too!
