‘I will defend the colours’ – Coutinho’s bullish statement leaves LFC fans delighted

Coutinho has told Liverpool fans that he’s no longer affected by the summer transfer saga which saw him miss out on a move to Barcelona.

As we all know, the Brazilian handed in a request to leave, but Liverpool refused to enter negotiations with the Spaniards, who used increasingly dirty tactics to unsettle our no.10 as the window drew to a close.

But Coutinho, who missed the beginning of our season with an ambiguous back injury, has reintegrated himself into the starting XI and is no longer worrying about his failed switch to Spain.

“I’m calm. It’s all passed by,” Coutinho said after the Spartak Moscow draw, reported in the Echo.

“I’m here to defend the colours, to give my maximum.”

In his past two games, Coutinho has scored two fantastic goals and registered an equally impressive assist.

He’s going to be essential going forward and any chance of us fighting for trophies or the top spot this term will be dependent on him staying fit and in-form, amongst other things.

In central midfield, he showed on Tuesday what he’s capable of: defence splitting passes and mazy runs from deep which can lead to goals.
