Dejan Lovren wins POTM, then has house burgled; Sadio Mane victim too

We completely hate it when this happens.

Yet again, footballers have been targeted by burglars during Champions League fixtures.

Last night, Sadio Mane and Dejan Lovren were the victims, who both watched Liverpool beat Maribor at Anfield from the sidelines due to injury.

The Echo claim that Lovren’s patio door was smashed by thugs who fled the scene after a neighbour heard them, while Mane’s home was actually entered – with the assumption that possessions were stolen.

A police spokesman said: “The investigation by detectives is in its early stages but it is believed the offenders fled in a car and officers would appeal to anyone who saw a vehicle being driven suspiciously in the area at around 8pm to contact them.”

In the past, Roberto Firmino, Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt and Daniel Agger have been robbed while living just outside the city and playing for the club.

It’s horrible and something we wouldn’t wish on anybody.

We feel especially sorry for Dejan. The Croatian has just been the victim of death threats to himself and his family by a large number of idiots masquerading as supporters. As a result, he was voted Fans’ Player of the Month by a section wanting to show him some compassion – but we can imagine that’s the last thing on his mind now.
