Despite reports in the Telegraph that Manchester City are ‘closing’ on Virgil van Dijk, journalist Adam Blackmore still reckons Liverpool are favourites.
Blackmore is the Radio Solent’s Sports Editor, basically the equivalent of James Pearce at the Echo, but for Southampton – so is someone whose ear is very much to the ground when it comes to signings in and out of St. Mary’s.
Yes, and despite city and other reports, I still think Liverpool are favourites

We already know that Liverpool are in deep discussions with Southampton regarding the Dutchman, who has not featured in any of Southampton’s last three Premier League matches.
Empire of the Kop has been told by a very good source that van Dijk’s agents want him to sign for Liverpool as we’re actually offering them a much larger fee than City, too.
The club is also willing to shell out a serious transfer fee that will likely make van Dijk the most expensive defender in the history of the game.
We’re confident it’ll get done, but nothing is confirmed or agreed yet.
