Carragher reacts superbly to £75m Van Dijk transfer

Jamie Carragher has taken to Twitter to have his say on Liverpool’s agreement to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for £75million.

The Anfield legend remains to be the role model that the likes of Van Dijk will be expected to emulate, especially for such a hefty price-tag.

Carragher appears confident the defender possesses the talent required to achieve such a feat, modestly suggesting the 26-year-old is superior in a number of aspects of the game.

For £75million, Reds have good reason to set high standards for January’s marquee signing and that includes demanding the same leadership and passion that the Anfield faithful adored Carragher for during his playing career.

Though Van Dijk hasn’t been at his top form so far this season, it’s worth noting his lengthy injury layoff prior to the new season as well as his heart evidently being set on a move to Liverpool ever since the summer.

It’s not only his power, athleticism and aerial ability that makes him a valuable addition to the team, but also his natural will to assert himself as a commander at the back.

He doesn’t immediately rectify Liverpool’s defensive concerns, but does represent a significant step towards addressing a priority area.

Let’s hope he becomes subject to plenty of positive analysis from Carra on Sky Sports.
