Virgil van Dijk has been monstrously good in Liverpool’s past two fixtures, the 2-0 win against his old club Southampton and the 5-0 demolition of Porto.
The Dutchman started slowly, following his £75m January move, but the manner in which he’s now found his feet is mightily encouraging.
On his Champions League debut for Liverpool, the 26-year-old was about as composed as it’s possible for a centre-back to be.
Time and time again he sprayed marvellous passes to the right wing, won all of his headers and carried the ball out smartly from the back.
Jurgen Klopp refused to buy another centre-half once he decided on van Dijk, but on this evidence, it was maybe a smart move.
