Liverpool confirm signing of Dutch wonderkid

Liverpool have bought Ajax teenager Ki-Jana Hoever, reports the Echo, for a small compensation fee.

The 16-year-old was highly rated at the prestigious Ajax academy, but Liverpool have done well to secure the fullback, who can also play as a centre-back.

We know very little about Hoever, other than that he’ll join Barry Lewtas’ under-18 squad initially with a view to eventually progressing to the U23s.

Liverpool regularly snap up the best talent from abroad, but it’s proven quite rare that any foreign teenagers brought to the Academy have actually made it in our first-team.

Suso was perhaps the closest in recent memory, although he left before reaching his potential and is now a key part of the AC Milan side instead.

Interestingly, it’s Scouse lad Curtis Jones who is the highest rated of our current crop, closely followed by Rafa Camacho.

Jones was sensational in pre-season and we hope to see him get some minutes in the League Cup 2nd Round fixture which will shortly be announced.
