Liverpool’s Naby Keita is the best Premier League signing this summer, according to ex-Reds midfielder and pundit Danny Murphy.
The Guinea international has certainly made a fine first impression at Anfield with two superb displays against West Ham and Crystal Palace as we’ve won both of our first two games.
While there are undoubtedly tougher tests to come for LFC this season, Keita shone in the Bundesliga and was clearly a priority target for Jurgen Klopp for some time before we finally brought him in for big money.
Klopp doesn’t mess about with transfers, and we’re seeing now why he was such a big admirer of Naby, who has looked the business in pre-season and in his early days in the Premier League.
Murphy is convinced the talented 23-year-old is the real deal, though he also admits he hopes he’ll be able to deal with what is undoubtedly going to be a lot of expectation on his shoulders.
“Keita will be the Premier League’s best signing this summer,” Murphy told BWIN.
“Liverpool will expect a lot from him and I’m expecting him to take them to next level. He’s a very dynamic player, very powerful and very quick. You can see the obvious potential he has got and the fans will be looking to him to dictate the midfield.
“Keita’s challenge will come when he plays against Liverpool’s rivals in the Premier League. I’m looking forward to seeing how he does fighting against the likes of [Paul] Pogba, [N’Golo] Kante and Fernandinho and finding out if he has the ability to match those players in those games.
“I hope he has the mentality to carry that burden of expectation.”
