Bullish Van Dijk warns LFC’s subs: ‘You better leave’ if you don’t like the bench

Virgil van Dijk is the best central defender on the planet right now.

The Dutchman has been our player of the season so far and we’d not be sitting jointly at the top of the table without him.

Virgil van Dijk speaks out on fitness following rib injury

Liverpool fans were worried he’d miss the Chelsea clash on Saturday, after he hurt his ribs the weekend previous against Southampton, but thankfully was ok and put in a quality performance.

Van Dijk might drop out of the side for the midweek Napoli clash though, to make sure he’s ready for the massive Anfield tie with Manchester City next weekend.

And according to the 27-year-old, any Liverpool player who has a problem with stepping out of the side is in the wrong game.

“You have to (understand), otherwise you better leave,” Van Dijk told the Telegraph. “We all want one thing, we all want to be successful, everyone, and we need everyone’s help.

“It’s a long season with a lot of games, we need everyone and everyone knows that as well, and that’s a big strength for us. Everyone is doing their bit because the season is long.”

For the Champions League match, we can actually see Jurgen Klopp selecting Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip at the back, allowing Joe Gomez and van Dijk to return on Sunday.

Lovren and Matip have their critics, but at times they’ve been good for us and can do a job in Italy, provided our fullbacks (Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson) stay in the team.
