Why LFC may turn down £50m potential superstar

Liverpool have been credited with an interest in Ajax’s sensational young central defender Matthijs de Ligt in the Mirror.

The 19-year-old captains his club and starts alongside Virgil van Dijk for the Netherlands, too…

De Ligt is arguably the best young defender on the planet, and almost all of Europe’s biggest clubs would happily take him this summer.

However, the Mirror report that Liverpool, along with other top Premier League clubs, will likely be put off trying to sign the youngster because of his agent, Mino Raiola.

The controversial Italian has had many run-ins with English clubs, due to his ruthless attitude about player contracts and whether his client is receiving proper playing time – happy to use the media to sour a relationship if he sees it financially beneficial long-term.

Last time we had a Raiola player on our books, it was Mario Balotelli, and we all know how that one ended!

Raiola even said disrespectful things about Jurgen Klopp before the striker’s permanent exit – and the club was so keen to get him off our books that we allowed him to join Nice for nothing.
