Carra gives definitive three-word verdict on Ajax man

Ajax have certainly captured the imagination this season with their unlikely run to the Champions League semi-finals.

It’s a shame in a way that their team will be broken up, but it’s hard to see the likes of Hakim Ziyech sticking around next season, while Frenkie de Jong has already agreed to join Barcelona.

The captain, Matthijs de Ligt, however, is the one that many Reds fans would love to see at Anfield – including Jamie Carragher.

According to Football365, Carra said: “I have never seen such a good defender at 19 years old. He plays as if he’s 29 and at his peak already. You can only imagine how good he will be when he actually is 29.”

Asked directly if he’d like Jurgen Klopp to sign the Netherlands defender, Carra was emphatic.

He said: “I’d love that.”

Whether Liverpool are going to make a move remains to be seen, but we’d certainly back a swoop for him: alongside Virgil van Dijk, that could be the best defensive pairing in the world.

He’d cost a huge sum of money – but you could have him for the best part of the next two decades.
