Overmars makes big Ziyech announcement as £25m bargain wins POTY

Ajax’s Moroccan sensation Hakim Ziyech will leave the club this summer, sporting director Marc Overmars has revealed.

26-year-old Ziyech has enjoyed a phenomenal season with the Dutch giants, winning a domestic double and coming within seconds of qualifying for a Champions League Final against Liverpool – only for his side to Spurs at the last minute.

Yesterday Ziyech was named Ajax’s Player of the Year, some achievement considering Dusan Tadic scored 40-odd goals from midfield, and Overmars announced that when a big club makes a bid, the playmaker will be on his way.

‘He leaves when a top club comes. He is in focus because of his achievements in the Champions League,’ the former Arsenal winger said, cited in the Mail.

‘Many big clubs are buzzing around him. We promised Hakim to agree to a good transfer.’

According to the report, Ziyech has a £25m release-clause which can be activated by any European side – which is an enormous bargain in this day and age.

Considering the £80m price-tag on Wilfried Zaha’s head [Mail], the opportunity to acquire Ziyech for way under half of that is a massive one.

Liverpool have Xherdan Shaqiri as a versatile, creative midfielder – but Ziyech is probably of a higher level right now if we wanted to upgrade.

The Mirror claim we’ve been watching him closely, but time will tell if that translates into an actual bid.
