Lyon winger Memphis Depay hinted on Saturday that he will be leaving the French side this summer, with the red plane he was boarding in an Instagram post leading many Liverpool fans to put two and two together.
There have been no concrete links to Depay – or indeed, any other players – so far this summer, but a deal for the Dutch international certainly appeals.
As back-up for Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, Depay fits the bill. The only question mark is over his attitude, but the club will have done the necessary background checks if they are seriously interested in signing him, just as was the case with Xherdan Shaqiri last year.

I am so down with Memphis Depay. Really hope this pans out. 25. Multi dimensional forward. Will be easy gel into squad. 🇳🇱 teammates Virgil/Gini/Ki-Jana (to an extent), also to be mentored by our 🇳🇱 Assistant Coach Pep Lijnders. Too many things make sense. pic.twitter.com/cQzIvh4pRs

The Liverpool fans who wouldn’t want to sign Memphis Depay because he didn’t succeed at United are the same Liverpool fans who call Mo Salah one of the best players in the world. How’d his time at Chelsea go again? 🤔

Depay under Klopp will be a beast.

Depay. Fekir. I trust Klopp and the club in signing thd right players but lets just win the Champions League first.

As that last tweet says, let’s get the Champions League final won before we start thinking too far ahead.
Solid links to players are likely to emerge after that is done, or it might be a case of another Fabinho situation, with his signing announced just days after the final in Kyiv.
