Gullit mocks Man United with Matthijs de Ligt comments and gives Reds hope

Dutch football legend Ruud Gullit says that Manchester United have no chance of signing Matthijs de Ligt this summer because they are not in the Champions League next season.

PSG are thought to be leading the chase for the Dutch defender, with Barcelona also ahead of the Reds in the queue, but Gullit believes the Reds will be in the mix – certainly ahead of United – because of the Champions League advantage.

Via Goal.com, Gullit said: “I don’t think it’ll be Manchester United, they don’t play in the Champions League. I think he wants to play in the Champions League, so that’s unfortunate for Manchester United.”

The Reds are still unlikely to win the race for De Ligt, mainly because of the wages that his agent would demand for the defender, but it just goes to show the significance of getting into the top European competition year on year, as Jurgen Klopp has delivered.

Whoever the player is, if both United and the Reds want them this summer, there is no question who the individual would choose, which shows how far Klopp has taken the club.
