What’s really going on with Liverpool’s conversations with Sporting Lisbon

Posted by

There have been multiple rumours, primarily circulated in the Portuguese press, about Liverpool being interested in Sporting Lisbon playmaker Bruno Fernandes.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a ridiculously profitable season in his homeland in which he notched over 30 goals from central midfield – which has naturally led many to believe he’s set for a bumper move elsewhere.

But David Lynch of the Evening Standard, who is a good source, has rubbished suggestions we’re keen.

Instead, he has claimed our only discussions with Sporting are in regards to Rafa Camacho, our young Portuguese winger who made his debut in 2018/19, but is keen on an exit to get more minutes.

Camacho won’t put pen to paper on an Anfield extension, so it’s looking likely that we’ll need to cash in before the summer is out.

This is a shame as he’s a talented player, but we don’t think youngsters should be held against their will at a club when they’re not featuring for the first-team – so believe he’s perfectly entitled to search for a move.

Hopefully, any transfer involves some kind of buy-back clause if Camacho turns into a world-beater, though!
