Napoli ‘make bid for Reds target’ but the player wants Anfield switch

Napoli have reportedly made an offer of around £45 million for Lille winger Nicolas Pepe – but the Ligue 1 flyer wants to sign for the Reds.

According to Il Napolista, Napoli’s offer falls about £30 million short of Lille’s valuation so the French outfit are highly unlikely to accept it, but Pepe doesn’t want to go there anyway.

Pepe, who scored 23 times last season, has repeatedly been linked with the Reds this summer – some bizarre reports a few weeks back even suggested that Jurgen Klopp would be prepared to sacrifice Mo Salah in order to sign him.

Press in England, though, have always maintained that Pepe was not on the Reds’ radar.

If that is the case, it makes sense that the rumours have been driven by Pepe’s side in an attempt to generate interest from Liverpool, as sometimes happens.

We’d love to see him come into the club, but if Napoli have made a bid, he’s far more likely to be heading to Italy this summer.

We certainly don’t think he should be holding out for an offer from the Reds, because one doesn’t appear to be incoming.
