Liverpool fans had some fun at the end of our 2-2 draw with Sporting Lisbon last night, following Sepp van den Berg’s minute-long debut!
The Dutchman is only 17, but counts as our only proper transfer of a very quiet summer so far, so naturally, supporters, both in the New York Yankee’s Stadium, and back in England following the game online, were excited to see him.

Van den Berg did very little, basically passing the ball sideways for the seconds he was on as both teams ran down the clock – but that didn’t stop him being rated higher than Manchester United target Harry Maguire on Twitter!
The rangy central defender clearly has the world at his feet, but we’re not sure we’ll see him turn out for the first-team this season.
In Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren, we have four senior centre-backs vying for two positions, and considering van Dijk is an automatic pick and will essentially start every match – van den Berg is not really in contention.
Still, this experience would have been a great one for him. We hope there’s many, many more to come.
Outstanding ovation for #LFC new boy Sepp van den Berg 👏👏👏

The highlight from tonight’s game was the huge crowd of Liverpool supporters applauding Sepp van den Berg when he entered late in the game, and then cheering every time he passed the ball. I hope he took it the right way, everyone was thrilled for him. #Liverpool #LIVSCP #SVDB
