Van Dijk names his ultimate 5-a-side team – including two other Reds men and one shock choice

Virgil van Dijk has revealed the players he would choose alongside himself for a fantasy 5-a-side team – with two other Liverpool players among his selections.

The two remaining slots are filled from Barcelona players, though only one (Lionel Messi) was playing the famous game at Anfield just a few months ago. The other, Frenkie de Jong, is his teammate for the Netherlands at international level and signed for the Catalans from Ajax this summer.

Alisson was one of the players, which is no surprise, but Gini Wijnaldum was also named. While the Dutch midfielder is a great player, he’s probably not the first name most people would have come up with.

Speaking to Sport Bible, Van Dijk said: “Wijnaldum is a fantastic player, very underrated, he’s very good on the streets and got quick feet. My second midfielder would be Frenkie de Jong. He’s just had a big transfer to Barcelona and is a very special player.

“My striker would be Lionel Messi because he’s one of the best players, if not the best player, in the world.”

Alisson is the perfect choice with his world-class saving abilities and superb skills with the ball at his feet, while no one can argue with Messi being included. De Jong is a special talent as well.

We wouldn’t want to be coming up against that quintet at the local Powerleague!
