This is obviously not the biggest deal in the world, but we thought we’d share it anyway to get your thoughts on the matter!
Yesterday, Opta released a tweet stating that by definition, Virgil van Dijk had been dribbled past for the first time in 65 matches during the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City – in which we cruelly lost on penalties after dominating the game.
65 – During the Community Shield final, Virgil van Dijk was dribbled past for the first time in his last 65 competitive appearances (by Gabriel Jesus) for @LFC since Mikel Merino did so for Newcastle in March 2018. Human. #CommunityShield pic.twitter.com/24B6WFcKUw

The incident occurred in the second-half – but some fans online reckon City’s Brazilian simply takes the ball to the side of the Dutchman and plays a through-ball.
It’s fantastic skill from City’s forward, but is it really a ‘dribble past’?
Apparently so, but we’re not sure this takes too much away from van Dijk’s current stock!
