According to a report in The Athletic, he was chosen over the likes of Lucas Torreira, who moved to Arsenal last summer, and Jorginho, who was interesting Manchester City, but ended up reuniting with Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea, because of his physical prowess and physicality.

Fabinho was used to a slower pace in Ligue 1 with AS Monaco but since he became accustomed to the Premier League, that certainly paid dividends.

His strong tackling and immaculate timing of challenges has been a regular feature at Anfield for a number of months now and he has established himself as one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp’s teamsheet.
