Joel Matip confirms he’s fit to play against Manchester United

Liverpool centre half Joel Matip has declared himself fit to face Manchester United this coming weekend, after suffering an injury before the international break.

He was in training at Melwood on Tuesday, and looks to join Alisson and Mo Salah in being ready for Jurgen Klopp.

I’m back in training and hopefully I will stay fit,he told the club’s official website. “I’m back in training and I feel good. Of course, if I’m needed, I will be there.

Injuries [happen] to a player. Now I’m back, I hope I stay fit and I can focus on the positives.

Matip missed out on the Reds’ Champions League fixture against Salzburg and the following game against Leicester City.

With Joe Gomez under-performing, Dejan Lovren was seemingly preferred against the Foxes – and he put in a decent performance.

If Matip isn’t set to start against United, I’d hazard a guess that the Croatia international will fill in for his team-mate.

Alisson returning to first team training is also big news, I’m sure that needs no further context. Adrian has put in an admirable shift in the Brazilian’s absence, but fans will be ecstatic to see Ali back.

Considering the length of Alisson’s injury, the United game may come just too soon for him – but here’s to hoping!
