(Video) John Aldridge names the best Scouse footballer of all time

John Aldridge was given the honour of being able to play for the team that he supported as a child but before and after that moment, he also proved to be a great Scouse footballer too.

Speaking on the ‘We Are Liverpool Podcast’, the 65-year-old was asked who the greatest ever Scouser was and said: “It’s got to be Stevie G. Has to be Stevie G.

“We’ve had so many fantastic Scousers that I’ve been lucky to watch play for Liverpool. I’m very proud of being one of them as well…

“Cally [Ian Callaghan], Robbie [Fowler], you know. There’s been so many. Carra. You know, for what Steve did for the club. And I actually think he’s the best player that’s ever played for the club”.

It’s not much of a surprise to hear that Steven Gerrard is viewed so highly, even by former players of the club who didn’t get the chance to share a pitch with him, but also nice to hear some other important names from our history mentioned.

Watching the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones today provides an exciting prospect of who could possibly take the mantle off our former captain in the future, even if they are enormous shoes to fill.
