‘Every single game…’ – Don Hutchison claims one Liverpool player is excelling ‘under the radar’

Don Hutchison has claimed that one Liverpool player’s performances this season have gone somewhat ‘under the radar’.

It might seem surprising that such a statement was made about Mo Salah, who’s the Reds’ leading scorer this season with eight goals in all competitions (Transfermarkt), but the former Anfield midfielder pointed to the incredible consistency of the 31-year-old.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, the Scot said of LFC’s number 11: “I think he’s gone under the radar. This season especially, you look at his goal involvements there, every single game he’s picking up goals or assists, both, he’s devastating, the numbers are just phenomenal.

“Credit to Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool and the player for what they’ve turned Mo Salah into.”

You might think that Salah would be the last player at Liverpool who could go ‘under the radar’, given that he’s already shot his way into fifth place on the club’s all-time goalscoring list (lfchistory.net), but at times it’s easy to forget just how extraordinarily consistent he is.

He’s registered a goal contribution in nine of his 11 games for the club already this season (Transfermarkt), and when you stretch the sequence back to the final third of 2022/23, his incredible production rate is vividly laid bare.

He’s either scored or set up a goal in 15 of his last 17 games for the Reds, and 21 out of 27 since the beginning of March, with his tally in that time standing at 19 goals and 11 assists (Transfermarkt).

It’s numbers are those which show why Hutchison feels that, outside of Liverpool fans who’ve become so accustomed to his brilliance that we nearly risk taking it for granted, Salah’s phenomenal greatness isn’t widely recognised.

Games like last Saturday – when the Egyptian was relatively subdued during the 90 minutes against Everton but still scored both goals in our 2-0 win – illustrate why he’s simply priceless to the club, as his Saudi suitors discovered a few weeks ago when their £150m transfer bid was swiftly tossed aside.
