We are more confident than ever of securing Sadio Mane in a £30 million deal from Southampton.

According to the Daily Express’ Paul Joyce, Mane became our top target after talks for Bayern Munich’s Mari Gotze stumbled.

Mane scored twice against us at St Mary’s last season as we threw away a 2-0 half-time to lose 3-2.

If he joins, he would become our fifth signing from the south coast club in the last couple of seasons – Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert have already made the leap.

If Mane arrives he would face still competition for a first team place. Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings, Divock Origi, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana are all fighting for places in the attacking unit – though Belgian striker Christian Benteke is still expected to leave the club this summer.
