Wijnaldum having medical at Liverpool training ground as we speak

Our £25m deal to sign Newcastle United’s Georginio Wijnaldum is all but complete, with the details agreed with the Magpies ahead of his move to Anfield (via the BBC). The Dutchman is in the midst of having a medical at Melwood at the time of writing, with Sky Sports confirming the news on Twitter.

The 25-year-old was the standout performer for a poor Newcastle team last season, and it’s hardly surprising to see him jump straight back into the Premier League following their relegation.

Assuming there are no issues with the medical Wijnaldum will be a Liverpool player imminently, and will hopefully be able to take part in our pre-season tour of America.

Wijanldum scored 11 goals from midfield last season, which is a fantastic return considering he was playing for an absolutely disastrous Newcastle side. He was always too good for Rafa Benitez’s side, but next season he’ll be playing for a team worthy of his talent.

It’s been a busy summer already for Jurgen Klopp, with Wijnaldum set to become the sixth player through the doors – following Marko Grujic, Sado Mane, Ragna Klavan, Joel Matip, and Loris Karius to Anfield.

The player’s versatility will be a huge boost, as he’s able to play in a variety of attacking positions. His best position is arguably at No.10 just behind the striker, but with the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in the side he’s more likely to play a deeper role.
