Carra tells Sturridge: Be like Bobby

Jamie Carragher has given his former Liverpool team-mate Daniel Sturridge some advice on how to get back in Liverpool’s side.

And that’s to be more like the man who’s filling the place he wants up top, Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian starts centrally in Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice XI, with Coutinho and Sadio Mane either side, while Sturridge – regarded as our most naturally talented attacker – has had to come off the bench in games often this term.

“At this moment Jurgen Klopp fancies Roberto Firmino in that central striker position,” Carragher told ESPN. “He is only playing one striker at the moment, which is a problem for Daniel.

“Last season he was playing with two, so that’s something he has to think about. How can he improve? What is Firmino doing that he is not doing?

“Every manager sees it differently, but Klopp has gone for that one.Daniel Sturridge’s strike rate for Liverpool is outstanding. Up there with the greatest strikers Liverpool have had. We know he can do that, but perhaps Jurgen Klopp wants different things from him that Firmino can add.

“So maybe Daniel has to look at that and think where he can improve to get back into the team.”

As long as Liverpool are winning, we don’t mind who Klopp selects, in truth. If Firmino sets the tone for our overall press and helps us perform the way Klopp wants us to, then so be it – happy days.

We waited a long time for Sturridge to get healthy and now it’s his time to wait for an opportunity which we hope he’ll take with both hands.
