Joel Matip has become a star in recent weeks. The summer signing from Schalke has not put a foot wrong since he made his debut against Spurs and is now firmly established as the preferred partner for Dejan Lovren at centre back.
And while he has looked consistently cool, calm, and composed while on the pitch, it seems like it might be a different story at Melwood — and it’s all because of one magical player.
“If you are one against one with Philippe [Coutinho] in training, it’s the same as you see on the field,” Matip said. (Echo).
“It is very hard to play against him. With the ball he is amazing and he does amazing things.”
Coutinho has been in fine form all season. He goal in the win over West Brom at the weekend was his fourth of the season in the league. He only managed eight in the entirety of last season.
In fact, that tally of eight was his best return in his Liverpool career to date, meaning he is already well on course to have his best season so far in a Red shirt.
