€25m German emerges as Alisson alternative – Bild

Another day, another goalkeeper linked to Liverpool.

We all know by now that Alisson is the primary target, but his club AS Roma are demanding crazy money and we can’t see anything being agreed before the World Cup.

Dave Maddock in the Mirror says that Jan Oblak is too expensive and shockingly, that Southampton’s Alex McCarthy is now on the shortlist, but we’re more interested in the name linked by Bild [translated in another Mirror article]… Bernd Leno.

The German report suggests we’re interested in a potential €25m deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s no.1 as an alternative to Tite’s first-choice for Brazil.

Leno has caught the attention of Arsenal and Napoli, and at 26-years-old, is about to enter his goalkeeping prime.

He has six caps for Germany, no mean feat considering Manuel Neuer and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are also competing for the spot between the sticks.

Leno is probably a slight upgrade on our current options, Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, but not someone we’d describe as elite.

Let’s put all our eggs into the Alisson basket, and focus on someone else if we really can’t sign him.
