Alonso contract may be reason for delayed deal

Posted by

There’s been lots of speculation over the future of Xabi Alonso and some of the more trustworthy journalists, including The Times bound Tony Barrett, have come out and said that it’s when and not if Xabi will be heading for Madrid. Empire of the Kop believe that the only reason Xabi is still a Liverpool player is due to a clause in his contract.

When Xabi Alonso signed from Real Sociedad for £10 million a clause was put in the Spaniards Anfield contract that if he was to be sold on Sociedad would be entitled to a percentage of his sell-on fee. This contract clause is believed to expire in late mid to late July with some sources quoting either the 17th or 18th of the month.

Now, if this is true then it is more than likely Liverpool will be holding out to ensure they take 100% of the transfer fee which is speculated to be no less than £30m which may include Madrid youngster Negredo.

I really hope it isn’t true, however when credible writers like Tony Barrett are confirming it you have to worry.

  1. read a while ago, Madrid would wait until August 1 (where the clause ends). Yes, it’s worrying.

  2. I don’t see why he wants to leave anyway. He’s a world class player who’s been very valuable to us. I reckon he’s moving for money.

  3. I can understand why he is moving when your maneger is involved in a hole summer going after a player vary publicky ( G. Barry) who plays in your posision then what would you do i don’t want him to leave but it is not for money just he feel’s that the manger wanted to replace him and look what happend he ended up being one of our best players last season would barry have down better i don’t think so Madrid clearly has seen this and now going after him Alonso is probly thinking why should i stay at a club that wanted to replace me when i can be at a club that want me

  4. I’m quite dissappointed in Xabi’s decision to go. The fans are behind him, especially given how he was treated last year, so to me his request to leave is purely for money. LFC is an amazing club and Real are not what they were. Gutted. Hope it isnt true, but I have a feeling it is.
