Has the tide turned?

What a fantastic Saturday of football this has turned out to be for the Reds. Needless to say the pinnacle will most certainly be the derby win over Everton, which made it a double for the season, with the added bonus of extending our unbeaten run and notched another clean sheet which is always a boost for morale. It has to be said that Everton were on a very decent streak of results and were in fact unbeaten since we last defeated them in Goodison earlier on in the season.

Needless to comment much about the game as I am certain all of you have seen it. Just a few considerations here and there not to loose the habit! The derby is a particular contest and this match was no exception. Feisty would be appropriate, controversial would be objective, satisfying would be spot on. Never mind how we played, never mind the need for or lack of quality. It’s a derby win, three points in the bag, and 4th spot in the Premier League.

Reina was superlative the few times he was called upon, Kyrgiakos should not have been the only one to be red-carded in that challenge (how could Felliani get out of that scot-free?), Gerrard is getting there, Maxi played a most decent game, and what about Mr.No-Good-First-Touch Dirk Kuiyt???? He plays like a scouser, he battles like a scouser, and he even bloody talks like one! For commitment, passion, resilience, resolution and teamwork, the Reds today deserve a 10 hands down!

The derby victory is not the only positive aspect of this Saturday football spectacle: Hull City were kind enough to down Man City and make that 4th spot achievement for the Reds a tad closer. Obviously, the direct encounter with them in the coming weeks is now vital!

The cherry on the cake was the stalemate between Spurs and Villa. What more could we ask for? Man City and Villa have two and one games respectively in hand, but if we beat Man City they can only come level with us on points if they win both games in hand, and that applies to Villa as well. 4th spot is very much within our reach again and we are up where we belong, in the top four!

  2. I’m so proud of the Reds. Everyone played a stormer.
Yes that includes Ngog, who went about his business efficiently. Yes that includes Lucas who was immense. Yes that includes Insua, who played super in the second half.

With ten men, I forgot Kryi got sent off. We played like we had twelve men on the pitch. High tempo, physical game. Brilliant!! The fans were incredible too.

A word about Babel: I hope he changes my opinion of him. I liked what I saw today. I’ll admit, I’m not his biggest fan, but I know he has the potential to big a star.

Finally: I really hope Andy Gray is not commentating on Wednesday’s game. Maybe because it was just Everton, or the fact he hates the Pool. Joke of a commentator.

anyway, Reds: Bask in the beauty of a derby day win.
