Centre-back and striker not fit enough to face Leicester City…

Brendan Rodgers has explained how neither Mamadou Sakho nor Mario Balotelli will be fit enough to face Leicester City on Tuesday evening following their recent injury troubles.

“The squad will be pretty much the same,” the boss replied when asked on the availability of his French centre-half and Italian striker, reports the official website.

“Sakho trained yesterday with the team for the first time, but won’t be match-ready yet. And Mario is still not fit.”

Sakho’s missed nearly the entire season with a thigh problem, while Balotelli picked up a hamstring injury with the Italian national squad during the international break.

As a result of Sakho’s problem, Kolo Toure has come into the side to replace the woefully out of form Dejan Lovren, while Rickie Lambert has deputised for Mario Balotelli, who had been playing up top by himself because of the prolonged Daniel Sturridge absence.

Sakho has a strong chance of earning a place in the team when he fully recovers, due to the poor defensive performances of Martin Skrtel and Lovren. While Toure has done well when given a chance, he doesn’t provide a long-term solution aged 33, and his lack of pace could cause issues, too.
