German wonderkid Timo Horn is the latest in a long-line of goalkeepers to be linked with Liverpool…

The Daily Express are claiming this morning that Liverpool are preparing to axe goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in favour of German wonderkid Timo Horn, who is the latest in a long line of goalkeepers to be linked with a switch to Anfield.

Mignolet kept his second clean sheet in three games on Saturday, as Brendan Rodgers’ side held Sunderland to a 0-0 draw, but the Belgian has continued to receive criticism for his inconsistent performances.

Horn, a highly rated 6ft 4in stopper, who is also a German Under-21 international, currently plays for Cologne in the Bundesliga, and could be available for as little as £5m in the January transfer window.

He has been with his boyhood club since the age of nine, and has become the regular shot-stopper for the German youth teams since under-15 level.

Rodgers is reportedly keen to bring in the 21-year-old so he can challenge Mignolet for his place in the Liverpool squad, with Brad Jones currently the only competition for the starting spot.

Fiorentina keeper Neto and Espanyol’s Kiko Casilla have also been linked with the Reds, and it seems extremely likely that we will move for at least one new player for the position in the New Year.
