Mignolet has been woefully inconsistent all season, but it’s rarely been mooted that he’ll make for Australian understudy Jones.
Jones has been with Liverpool since signing in 2010 hen Roy Hodgson was in charge, but has only made eight Premier League appearances in that time – and none since 2012/13…
The 32-year-old is not exactly a liability, but his introduction is unlikely to fill Liverpool supporters with an awful lot of confidence.
While Mignolet’s been poor, it would be a very brave decision for Rodgers to drop him now, ahead of one of the most eagerly anticipated matches of the season.
If Rodgers was going to pull him out of the firing line, why wouldn’t he have done it already?
