Reds boss travels to Italy, on rumoured scouting trip…

The papers are rife today with rumours that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers travelled to Rome before our match with Crystal Palace in order to discuss a potential summer transfer for Roma’s Miralem Pjanic.

Rodgers has been snapped with a fan outside the Vatican, sparking suggestions that he’s on a scouting trip to Italy. However, neither Lazio nor Roma have played a match during his trip, prompting claims that he’s there for preliminary negotiations.

The Bosnian 24-year-old playmaker is rated at £25m, and has been mooted as a potential Steven Gerrard replacement option, and has enjoyed a terrific season in Serie A.

Pjanic can play in either a deep-lying role or further forward, and prides himself on his thunderous long-shots, and his ability to slice open defences with intricate passes.

There is no confirmation as to why Rodgers was in Italy, and we’d not want to speculate – as he could have just been taking a few days well-earned rest!
